Today released the White House and US government in 2016 budget. The exciting thing about this budget omega is that it is published as open source (open source) on GitHub. It currently consists of three files in the repository, and is an extract from the budget figures, thus perhaps not entirely open source. However, there are additional files to download if necessary. There is a user guide for how one can use this budget data. This initiative makes it free for anyone to analyze the data, combine and split, completely free under the Creative Commons Zero license! It is machine readable and can also be read quite openly through the blog platform Medium. This exciting feature is a possible success for Open Government -rörelsen the Open Knowledge and may pave the way for more!
So far, the Ministry of Finance will publish only key tables from the government's budgets. When will we see Sweden make their budgets more transparent in this way? Time to the digital possibilities to be taken seriously! This initiative is an example of design thinking that involve citizens in the process. It is a step towards a more inclusive and service-based management of public finances. This also creates some questions: How can this initiative strengthen democracy? And how it can affect the confidence entrusted in power? What stories and lessons we will experience based on this data?
