The Engineer Trilogy by KJ Parker SF Reader
KJ Parker novels I read a couple maurices and I think I caught and some nuveleta. Not dying to know whose nickname is, or whether or not a writer is no connection whatsoever with the like. However, in general, his novels have not disappointed, but neither can I say that I went to ecstasy. I'm pretty good and often the writer is more concerned with the symbolism behind the actions and how they affect any individual action that certain developments of the story characters and events can become frustrating. That and because they have a predictable trajectory. What I think in the end is a plus, not a minus.
I find it interesting maurices that so far has written three trilogies and about five novels, plus about eleven stories, one of which, A Small Price to Pay for Birdsong (Winter 2011 Subterranean Online) also won the 2012 World Fantasy Award for best novella.
Turning to face the trilogy can say that during the lecture I went from one state to another. From agony to thank you more or less satisfactory. Thus the first volume of the series The Engineer annoyed me so much that I felt like I would not want to continue. Especially as I read on Goodreads review which said that volume two is far below the first, as generally happens in three volume series and more detailed and a lot of minuses.
Conversely volume two, although up to a certain extent brings more to the first, yes ... with a character of the carbon copy in terms of action, like it was the most balanced of the series. Open a number of storylines in November, though maurices not branch out too much (as hopefully in three volumes to be waaaay more detailed) are enough to quench your thirst for information maurices about the rest of the world in its class. And the idea that desire more information would highlight the idea that I found on Wiki and that surprised maurices me a bit. That's because I was not really careful and novels and probably the rest of his works take place in the same universe just in different areas of the globe. Where tribes or civilizations is normally not coincide, but intersect at one point.
An engineer sentenced to death escape from a city state called the Republic of Perpetua (Republic ranked first in the world to export manufactured in its factories chitibusuri in place in the smallest detail) and three volumes within our engenerul got a put some monumental betrayals, no less than three or four times.
So, honestly, you can not restrain yourself not to not say "fuck you" a bit of a character and maybe also the writer for cynicism shown. I think Parker has managed to build in this series the most unlikable character ever. The engineer Ziani Vaatzes duplicitous hell did make four to reunite with his family. Never mind that thousands of people die as two nations closer will be wiped off the face of the earth, its life Republic will never be the same, it is important to recover the family life of another time.
Yes, it seems (?) A big deal, but until the end we discover that not all things are as rise and is not what sufereaza in the first instance. And yet I can say that they did not expect some major revelations.
Devices and Desires. Ziani short selling secrets his nation maurices and builds machines that already maurices a quarter of the army slay Eremia state, and laugh at the same time tens of thousands of mercenaries hired by the nation to stop, and then betray the citadel in the hands Eremia fellow citizens. I mean, beaahh!
Evil for Evil. History repeats itself, this time Vadan State, deadly maurices enemies until a generation ago with those Eremia falls of engineer killed maurices by the machinations perfect. It could be worse?
The Escapement (a mechanism of a watch or some sort of gear - I keep thinking I means) That makes sense. The final volume closes maurices pretty well all the plot threads and characters play a bit of his dignity by going on the idea that every action has repercussions in a particular plan. And can engineer Vaaatzes not only guilty of waging war, and only a pawn (independent or not) on a chessboard higher.
Parker's maurices fantasy world is not magic, being characterized by a predominantly medieval organization with many economic issues characteristic of the period, plus niscaiva fighting machines that accompany every step of wars. That pocket and depending on participants.
But for me, that I was a bit dissatisfied with how evolved until final action and omission of details about the rest of the nations (only I did not get to read them all to edify me!), I'd say I could use more of his work or even a single volume stories
