A few random thoughts today: Cheap Seats got off to a late start today. I dee jayed a karaoke night at Auburn karmaloop Oyster Bar last night, but I got in reasonably karmaloop early at about 12:30. karmaloop However, I got sucked into watching the last half of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion karmaloop on TBS. This was the first time I had seen it since watching in the theater back in 1997. It’s a decent movie with superb soundtrack and I had pretty karmaloop much forgotten what happens. Coincidentally, Duets came on TBS afterwards at 2:00 and I watched it until I fell asleep. karmaloop I woke up and turned the TV off while Jen was undergoing some kind of high school karmaloop traumatic experience on Dawson’s Creek . Anyway, this caused my day to start a little late. There were several baseball games on at around noon when Cheap Seats turned on the tube. I opted for switching between the Diamondbacks at the Reds and the Tigers at the Royals. The Arizona/Cincy game on MLB Extra Innings was the Diamondbacks telecast which features the always entertaining Mark Grace doing play by play. The Reds won 3-2 behind great pitching karmaloop by Johnny Cueto in his big league debut. He pitched 7 strong innings giving up just 1 hit (a solo shot off the bat of Justin karmaloop Upton-1 of the Upton brothers). Meanwhile, Cheap Seats was drawn to the Tigers/Royals karmaloop game because the Royals had Zack Greinke pitching. Zack is the older brother of current Auburn Tiger Luke Greinke. Also, batting leadoff for the Detroit Tigers was a recent member of the Auburn Tigers, Clete Thomas. Thomas entered the game batting 1.000 (1 for 1) and I saw his average drop to .500 and then to .333. He is a bit of a long shot to even be with the big club, but some injuries have given him a chance. He wound up 1 for 4 leaving him at a cool .400, but the Tigers managed to lose again to KC. The Royals pulled out their brooms on the road at Detroit to start the season. I saw in the paper that Mariah Carey now has 18 #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. This breaks a tie with Elvis and she is now in 2nd place all by herself trailing only the Beatles (21). Cheap Seats could probably name a majority of the Elvis #1’s and at least 75% of the Beatles’ #1’s, but can’t name a single #1 from Mariah Carey unless there is one titled “Butterfly” which sticks in my memory karmaloop for some reason. Wednesday night featured karmaloop a big Braves win getting them in the W column for the 1st time this season. A close game turned into a rout as the Bravos added an insurance run or 7 in the 8th to win 10-2. Cheap Seats was not able to make it to the Auburn football scrimmage last night, but they say that Kodi Burns was impressive. Having to decide between 2 good quarterbacks karmaloop is a good problem to have as summer practices gets underway. Jimmy from Birmingham sent Cheap Seats an entertaining email with a great quote from the late Bart Giamatti (father karmaloop of Paul Giamatti-he was one of the stars of the forgettable Duets that I fell asleep to last night). Here is that email:
Jimmy from the NCAA in Birmingham here. I wanted to share with you two thoughts now that baseball is back. First, the universe should be coming into alignment again soon; Glavine is pitching for the Braves again and the bullpen is blowing leads. karmaloop Seems like old times.
It breaks your heart. It s designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring when everything else begins again and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and as soon as the chill rains come, it sops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You can count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops .
As I was walking to the library to “go get the papers, get the papers” (Jimmy Two Times from Goodfellas ) I had my iPod on Shuffle Songs and I was treated to a good run of music: ”Unchained” a classic Van Halen hit from Fair Warning ; “Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes” delicious early 70’s bubble gum pop from Edison Lighthouse; “Whenever I Call You Friend” one of the best duets ever from Kenny Loggins with help from Stevie Nicks; some more Van Halen-”Dance the Night Away” my favorite song from Van Halen II; Elton John’s “Little Jeannie” which messed up the streak, but I skipped past it (I should delete that one); “My Name is Jonas” by Weezer; the Manfred Mann’s Earth Band version of “Blinded By the Light” a cover originally written and recorded karmaloop by Bruce Springsteen-the Manfred Mann version made it to #1; and “Up On Cripple karmaloop Creek” of course by The Band which ended right as I got home. Perfect timing.
There was some AP story in The Birmingham News today by Josh L Dickey about Clinton Kelly, the
